Loboc River (Bohol Trip Part 9 Day 1)

Loboc River Minus the Cruise...

After the Loboc Church visit, it was already half past 1:00 PM. I was not in the mood to take the Loboc River Cruise anymore. Usually tourists take the cruise in time for lunch. We were too late for lunch already. I did not also check if they were available for late lunch.

I marveled about how Loboc River is so clean and green. Our tour driver informed us that the Bohol government make sure that people cooperate in maintaining the river clean. The government will impose fines and punishment to people caught littering the river. Because Eco-tourism is big business in Bohol, it is understandable that the government and the people should work hand in hand to protect and preserve one of their important livelihood.

I think governments of bigger cities should learn something from Bohol. There should be political will to make each and everyone aware of the responsibility of protecting the environment and habitat. The responsibility should not rest only on the government. The government and people should work hand in hand. Discipline should also be imposed to make the errant souls tow in line...

In big cities where commercial and housing developments are the main priority, we couldn't find vast and green rice fields anymore. Sadly these will eventually give in to so called "progress" one day. Malls, office buildings, and houses will take over - and the green rice fields will disappear...
